Title: Artemis 4021 mono cooling issues
Post by: patrickduis on June 04, 2014, 09:26:32 am
Hi, I use for a few years an Artemis 4021 mono (serial nr. 513). It has single stage cooling in combination with Nebulosity 3.1.8.
Normally in winter I easily reach -15C with it, but in spring/summer -10C is even difficult. What I also often see is that the CCD temp/cooling power indication in Nebulosity3 never shows higher than 61%, why can't it cool up to for example 80% cooling power? I understand that 100% is too much since that saturates the peltier and causes heat after a while.

Is there a possibility to convert my camera into two stage cooling? I am an experienced electronics engineer so I can do it myself if I have the right parts.

Many thanks,
Patrick (myrtha observatory Holland)

Using the same camera, and yes, would be very interested in that feature too!

Same to me.

The camera can cool roughly 15 degrees below ambient, not 33 as advertised.

Can I/we do something to freeze a little bit more? What about the Eprom setting, which has some parameters for the cooler?

please help, the camera is great (low noise!), I dont want to replace it!

???

thanks, Alois

Nice that you bring this up. My Artemis 4021 mono had some problems with the cooling and therefore it is at Atik now for repair. In the same time I have it converted to a full two-stage cooling Atik 4000 so I can use it for many years to come. I also don't want to replace it, for what I do with it the sensor is big enough and the sensitivity is also ok.
Contact the Atik service department if you are also interested in this upgrade.

How much did you pay for the upgrade?
thanks, Alois

I don't know that yet, I'll hear it when the work is finished.

Any new information concerning the price? And are you happy with the upgrade (means: is it really cool now...)?
lg and thanks,
Alois

Got the camera back a week or so and was able to test it. Atik did a great job reagerding the upgrade, the camera came back like new in a peli case with many extra features like the relaceable desiccant plug.
Please contact Atik for the price since it strongly depends on your model.
