Title: What camera for planetary photos
Post by: Zaphod on March 30, 2019, 06:49:44 am
Hello fellow members,

I have a Celestron 1100 with a focal length of 1764mm using a Reducer. After buying the scope and setting up an Infinity I find that I would love to get more into astrophotography. DSO but also more importantly planetary.

I now realise I should have bought something with a shorter focal length. Watching videos and reading many documents I find that the
best Atik camera to meet the range between 1 and 2 for the arc second/pixel size is the 1100 which is beyond my budget.

Can anyone recommend an Atik camera which with my equipment and "over sampling" will still allow me to get a decent photo of Jupiter, Saturn etc...

I live in the wilderness of Tasmania and so viewing conditions is almost perfect (albeit very cold!)

Thank you.

The thing you want with a planetary camera is the ability to shoot as fast as the light falling on the sensor will allow. Most DSLRs shoot in the 30 to maybe 60 fps. A good planetary camera might shoot 100 to 150 fps.
