How to focus ATIK on a 102 mm skywatcher
« on: February 28, 2017, 01:35:06 am »
Hi,
I am planning to use my new ATIK infinity with my 102 mm Skywatcher (f/5).
Do I need to put any additional adaptor to use ATIK infinity at prime focus?
What is the best way to focus the ATIK camera? I tried the FWHM but I do not see the images clearly using the software.
How do I use the FWHM number to validte that my camera is set up properly?
Any help is much appreciated
Thx
Gattu.

FWHM  depends on luminic pollution, seeing conditions, wind, humidity,.....

In my zone, 2,5 may be a good FWHM for a well focused single star binning 2 and 2" exposition.

I think that 2,5 can be considered a standard good-FWHM.

You can use a Bahtinov mask to have more exactitud

I use a Bhatinov mask on my 9.25 but not sure you need one or can even get one for a 102mm (4") refractor, anything below 10 on the FWHM is ok on my evo, haven't tried the infinity on my 102 mm skywatcher yet but will be when I have a couple of reasonable nights viewing, more experienced members may be able to give you the info you need, on here or CN or SGL.
The reason you cannot get an image may be due to your focal train not being correct and not so much FWHM adjustment.

Thanks you very much for your suggestions.
If my focal train is not set correctly what are my options?
Do I need to add more adaptors at prime focus to get the camera in focus and then use FWHM on inifnity?
Is there a way to calculate what will be the required focal train length for a given telescope and ATIK infinity camera?
Thanks
Gattu

I use a Bahtinov mask on every scope and camera lens I own.  The only way to go!

1) Get a bright star in the field-of-view
2) Install mask
3) Focus
4) Remove mask  *** Important ***
5) Frame target
6) Image
