Title: Atik 314E is this dark frame typical of the camera
Post by: RobertBarlow on June 10, 2012, 10:26:31 pm
I have just bought a 314E and am now seeing what it can do.  I'm puzzled because the dark frames I take all seem to record a quite significant, localized source in the same position to one side of the image.

Image processing uses Astroart 4.0.

The camera had been cooling for more than an hour before the tests were started.
Various precautions were taken to exclude visible and IR sources external to the camera.
I also tried a range of exposures with the camera in different attitudes but could detect no change in the position nor the relative intensity of the bright patch.  I am convinced that the radiation originates in the camera itself.

Astroart reports statistical ADU values for an example dark frame (exposure 10s):
Min: 101
Max: 4346
Average: 365.04865

Does anyone know whether the persistent bright patch is typical of this camera?

Hello,

If you send the .fit file from a 300 sec dark into support@atik-cameras.com together with the serial number from the back of the camera we can compare with the QC file taken during the cameras production.
Best
Steve
