383LC+
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:35:19 pm »
I use this camera since august without problems but with bin 1*1. I obtain colored images as predicted.
With bin 2*2 the exposure is greatly smaller but the images are grey. Is it normal with that model or all the color CCD cams have this characterisrtic ???

Thanks for tips.....

You cannot get color images if you bin 2x2 or greater from OSC cameras.

Not totally correct.  Celestron's Nightscape CCD offers color output off a OSC Kodak chip @ 2x2 and 4x4 binning.  It is not what one would consider normal binning of pixels AND involves a lot of on-chip processing... but it does turn out a color binned image.  I believe Orion also offers color binning using a similar process?

I was speaking in general. SX also makes SXVR-M26C which is OSC and has binning capability but not very good results. If you want to have a CCD camera with binning capability, you are better off with a mono CCD camera.

Bottom line, 383LC+ cannot result in a color image if binned 2x2 or greater.

I do agree.  I have a mono 428Ex and no OSC CCD's...
