Title: New 383 User
Post by: MikeM on February 24, 2012, 03:38:54 am
Hi all again! I just received my 383L & EFW2 and I have a question, maybe a bit silly but here goes. I don't have any filters for it yet but would like to connect everything together (camera, efw & oag) and shoot mono. Would it be detrimental to the filter wheel to have it connected with no filters in it? I suspect not but wanted to make sure before I did something stupid.

Thanks!

There's no problem to use the FW w/o filters but the focus position will change once you put filters in.

Hi,

Try the Baader LRGB filters, they are really nice ones and the price is nice to  8)

Best

Thanks Lex, those are the ones I plan on getting.

Now for other issues  :-[ -
1) Does anyone know if there is an adapter to connect the OAG to an FSQ106N? The only one I had was an old dslr adapter that while it connected via a Baader m54/m43(?) I didn't have enough in focus. So I'm looking for the shortest possible adapters.

2)  I tried connecting the EFW2 with Maxim DL, but Maxim said no filter wheel was connected. When I tried opening the4 Ascom dialog in Maxim it remained grayed out and said no Ascom driver was installed. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for all your help.!

ATIK has a male M54 -> female M42(T) adapter that adds about 1mm to the light train.  I think the Baader adapter is about 5mm.

Mike,

Are you using Win7 64bit?

Hi Lex,

I tried using my 64bit Win7 pc  but Maxim DL won't recognize the EFW2 - it uses Ascom for the wheel.
I have switched back to my 32bit pc and all works fine there.

Regards,

Hi,

I run a 64bit win7 also and i found out that all the astro softs run better on a 32 bit version!
Silly but real...

Lex, I would definitely 2nd this comment.  And it doesn't only apply to astro software!  If you're going to set up a stable, operational observatory for astro-imaging, stick with 32 bit Win 7!!
