Hi, has anyone got any advice on taking flats with the infinity. iv'e worked out that the flat field average value should be between 22700 and 32430. is this about right and were can you see this info after taking a flat frame?

full well is 22000 ,how did you come up with those numbers? i calculated adu around 8000 to 12000 (maybe i am wrong )

Hi,
You can use the free software Fitswork 4.47 (sorry german language only) to make a masterflat and divide your lightframe by the masterflat. The histogram (in Fitswork) should show you about 30.000 ADU ( max. 50% of full well ./. gain factor).

So far i used 7000 , 9000 ,12000 ,20000 ,22000 ,27000, 32000 . All taken with sgp pro flats wizard option. The best results i had ,regarding removing dust bunnies ,was with 9-10000 ADU. Above 20000 ,they are overcorrecting . That's why i am asking .

If you install APT (Astrophotoraphy Tool) you can run the Atik from that. APT has an excellent CCD Flats Aid in the Tools menu which will create a Flats imaging plan for you.

Too bad APT only uses the ASCOM driver for the Infinity rather than the native driver. Oh well it works, but a much better solution is to have the Infinity software calibrate flats esp. for on the fly live.

how do u do it with the infinity sw?

Some while ago Atik commented it was considering adding flats functionality to Infinity software to eliminate problems with vignetting on the Atik Horizon. Are we close to a solution? I am seriously thinking of switching to Sharpcap, but would prefer to stay loyal to Atik.

I took the full well 24000e and divided it by the gain factor 0.37e-/ADU which gave a value 64865. I then calculated 35% to 50% giving a range of 22700-32430. In practice I try to aim for around a mid value of 27500 and it seems to work ok. I have since answered my own question and use a light box which I rigged up
