Title: Prospective New 383+L User

Hi All,

I'm planning on getting the 383L+ mono and am trying to determine which filters to get with it. On the Atik website it states that one can use 1.25" filters down to F5 without relevant vignetting. I'm not quite sure what that means!
I plan on using this with my FSQ 106N which is F5. Would the 1.25 vignette my images? Or should I go either the 36mm or 50MM route.

No relevant vignetting means that there's no mechanical vignetting that couldn't be corrected with flats.

There's a reducer for FSQ106N that goes below F5 so i would go for 36mm.

Thanks for the reply Kaidan. As an fyi, the 106N does not have a reducer nor can it accept one. The newer versions 106ED &EDX do have a dedicated reducer. Regardless though, it is probably safer to go with the 36mm filters in case I do get a faster scope.

I didn't know that the "N" version had no reducer.

I use Baader 1.25" filters with my 383L+.  Baader filters have the largest clear aperture of any other brand.  Astronomik is slightly smaller, and Astrodon's have the smallest clear aperture.  With my Baader filters I get no vignetting at all at f/6.5, and only a slight amount at f/5 which is easily corrected with flats.

Hi,

I use the 1.25" Baader Filters also in combination with the EFW2 and several scopes like
A newtonian 10" f5, a C11 at f11 or f6.3 or a 90mm f6 apo triplet.

I never encountered severe vignetting problems.

I think if your Filter wheel is as close to the ccd plane as possible the 383 can be combined really good with 1.25" filters..
