I have a new Atik 490EX Color camera and will be using it with refractors. The camera has a window over the chip but, Vic at Atik tells me that the window is not an IR blocker. I have always had IR block filters with color cameras. Does anyone know if an IR block filter is normally required for the 490 when used with a refractor?
Thanks,
Jon

It isn't a requirement for the camera - but may well be a requirement for the scope you are using. Most refractors won't bring IR light to the same focus as other wavelengths so using an IR block filter will reduce star bloating.
