Should I be concerned with cooling below the -10 C temp identified in the chip manufacturers specifications?

The short answer is - no! You can cool the camera as low as your ambient temperature allows. The more important bit is going through the warm up process to avoid any thermal shocks to the sensor.

the 8300 is much cleaner at -20c than -10c so if ambient allows it to get to -20 then that is a good thing. -20c is my standard set point for the 383L but make sure to keep the desiccant tablets dried out regularly as frosting becomes an increasing issue. At the end of a session I tend to warm it up to 0c before turning it off.

I set -15 because I can get that all year round, including indoors where it's about 20C. Would -20 give a significant improvement over -15?

Thanks all! I have routinely cooled mine to -20C in winter months also without issues. It's just the specs for the chip threw me.
