Hello ATIK,
it is obstructed kaf 16200 in kamera?
Stefan
-
Hello ???? ATIK ???
-
Hi Stefan,
Sorry, this must've slipped through the net!
I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what you mean? We are working with the KAF-16200 full frame sensor, and we'll announce full details as soon as it's passed all of our testing.
Jo
-
Hello,
I believed whether you offer 16200 soon in a camera. This would interest me very much!
Stefan
-
That's good to hear, it is something we've got in development so watch this space over the next couple of months!
Jo
-
I assume there will be more information like a demo and details / price at the ATT in Essen 21th of May?
Regards Dick
-
We're likely to have our prototype camera at ATT along with its provisional specifications, but we can't release a final recommended price until it's passed all its testing, and unfortunately that'll be after the show.
Rui and Vince will be on hand to talk about it all though!
Jo
-
Hello,
I am curious really very much. I have a CFF185 / 1260 mm APO, the KAF 16200 fits certainly for it.
This becomes a right weapon.
Stefan
-
Definitely, it's shaping up to be a great camera, the size of the sensor gives you so much flexibility.
Unfortunately we won't have a prototype available at ATT this weekend as it's busy being tweaked and improved in our labs, but Rui and Vince will be there to talk about it.

Hello Jo,
Any date set for the release of the KAF 16200 based camera?
Peter
-
Hi Peter,
We haven't got a concrete date set yet, but we're looking towards the later part of this year. We'll make sure it's worth waiting for!
Best,
Jo
-
Any update on specs ?
Wish list :
- 16.5mm backfocus (so i can take out my STF-8300M, throw it against the wall and pop in the new Atik w/ KAF-16200 :D ).
- High quality shutter (and very fast if possible).
- -40ºC 2 stage cooling
- M54 or M68 thread
:D
-
Thanks for the input!
I'd have to double check how the thread and the backfocus are looking, but the shutter's working very well indeed and the cooling's looking like we can beat -40ºC - watch this space!
Jo
-
Thanks for the update.
As for the back focus this would be my "best case scenario" :)
For the thread, anything that is big enough to no have vignetting is fine .. as said, this is a wish list with "best case scenario" for me :)
Thanks
Rodolphe

Also, #1 priority (for me), it must work with the X2 plugin for TheSkyX Pro on OS X :)
This is the main deciding factor when choosing a camera (and there is another brand I won't name from which I will never buy again even though they have support for OS X).
-
One very nice feature I'm using on my Atik 4000 mono is the "Optical window heater" it saves you lots of problem with frost!
Will this feature be present on the future KAF 16200?
-
At this point, there isn't an optical window heater on the 16200 but only because so far we haven't found a need for one - it's quite a different design to the 4000 and gets round the problem in other ways. However, if there do appear to be any problems with frost during our continued testing, I'm sure it's something we'll look at adding in - but so far, so good :)
Also, rpineau, I will mention compatibility with the X2 plugin for TheSkyX Pro to our software guys and see if we can test that out a bit further down the line!
Thanks,
Jo
-
Thank you Jo.
Regards, Rodolphe

hello
there is now a date for the sale start?
-
Not an official one but... we are on track for early December 8)
-
Hello,
If the form factor changes, It means there is a new filter wheel in starting block or EFW2 will be fine ? If new one, 7 positions for 2" filters ?
Regards,
Miguel
-
Hello Jo,
I've been waiting for the release of this camera for some time, I've seen you have said it could be December.
The problem for most of us here in the UK is the falling pound we've seen alternative products increasing in price while we wait, with this in mind I'm just wondering if you can give me & others waiting any idea of the price for UK customers?
Peter
-
Hi Peter,
Yes, we're still working on that time frame so we're ironing out a few final details and working out the final costings, then we should have a clear picture in the coming weeks- as soon as we do I'll let you know.
I appreciate the wait's frustrating, particularly with the volatile financial market at the moment, and I admire how patient you've all been - I think it'll be worth it ;)
And Miguel - I'm sorry I missed your post - the EFW2 will be compatible, and we're looking to get a 7 position 2" wheel in the design blocks when we can.
I hope that helps - I'll get you more concrete information as soon as I have it myself!
Jo

A little more information for you guys ;)

And because I know the next question is going to be about the price - our dealers decide their final pricing, but here's what First Light Optics have gone for:

Thanks a lot Jo.
I assume the front plate thread is a standard T-Thread ?
Thanks, Rodolphe
-
Hello,
Thanks for the news. What about download times ? There is different modes and speed data transfert available ?
rpineau: camera thread seems to be M54 female
-
Good morning.
We have chosen m54 thread for the front of this camera. Its compatible with our filter wheel and OAG etc.
Cheers
Steve
-
Hello,
Back focus is 19.5mm
And yes camera is compatible with Sky X under OSX :)
Cheers
Steve

The camera shares the low read noise digitisation circuits of our 3 and 4 series cameras. Download time is approx 16 seconds.

Thanks.
All great news.
So same M54 as the Atik 11000 (so I can get the adapter made from Preciseparts.com using the Atik 11000 as the reference as they don't have the 16200 yet :) ).
Will you update the PDF with all the camera specs ( http://3ainmfntxe31vi9qd1pxgpd1.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/atik-specification-tables-Sept-16.pdf ) ?
Now we just need to wait for it to ship :D

Does the camera use the Class 1 or Class 2 CCD chip? And how does the camera deal with moisture in the chamber? Argon-purged? Desiccant tube? Thank you.
Anat
-
Hi Anat.
From this page : http://www.atik-cameras.com/product/atik-16200-coming-soon/
The Atik 16200 comes with a class II sensor fitted as standard
The CCD is housed in a sealed, argon-purged chamber to create a dry, condensation free environment.
Regards, Rodolphe
-
Hello Jo,
Looking at the spec. I see you have the following;
Dark Current: >0.25 electrons/second at 0°C
Is this correct as other manufacturers using the same KAF 16200 have quoted a Dark Current: >0.1 electrons/second at 0°C
Hope you can clear this up as I thought the Dark Current was always specific to the actual model of sensor being used?
Regards, Peter
-
Hello,
Yes dark current is specific to the model of the sensor. We will firm our value up as we get a larger number though production. But the figure is just due to the cooling and sensor.

I hope you guys had a good end of year holiday break.
Is there any update on the availability date of the camera ?
Thanks, Rodolphe
-
Hi Rodolphe,
Thanks, I hope you did too!
They are on the production line as we speak so I'd expect to see them shipping to dealers very soon! Though in terms of actual availability, it might be best to check with the dealers themselves. We've had an unexpectedly large number of back orders, but we don't always know whether these are for their stock or to fulfil existing orders.
I hope that helps!
Jo
-
Thanks Jo
I haven't ordered mine as my usual dealers didn't have a date. May be I should pre-order to be sure to get one.
Regards, Rodolphe
-
Camera ordered (from Highpoint Scientific).
:)
-
Hello, when is the delivery date now? It is always moved.
-
Any update on the availability date (mine is ordered via my US reseller .. so I'm hoping soon :D ).
Thanks
Rodolphe

Will it be possible to select a lower (than normal) digitization speed to improve read noise?
There is, umm, another manufacturer who manages to get the read noise down to 6e- by lowering
the CCD read speed to 2MHz. Of course it depends also on AD and amplifiers.
That would be awesome. I`m itching to buy this camera.
