Hello , i've owned the infinity for two years now. Everything is excellent , excepts the cooling part . During long hot summer nights here in Greece , even live viewing is a problem. Hot pixels everywhere ,no matter software removes them . So i decided to give a try to cool it . No peltier ,just a fan ,around 13mm blade ,attached to the rear of the camera ,at 5mm distance. I hope it will helps.
Since we don't have clear skies these days , tests will be run indoors. I ll keep you posted the next weeks or so with pics of the results.
Although i do have a question for atik . Supposedly , i achieve some temperature decrease , how safe is to exceed 2 min exposure barrier ?
I mean there is an option in the latest software to exceed the 2 min . Is it safe to set infinity ' s exposure time to 3 or 4 min?
Or it will harm anything within it?
i believe that noise will be horrible ,but assuming that there will be better cooling , i can even use dark frames in post processing , is it recommended?
i don't want to burn any circuit.
thanks

We'll be interested to hear how your added fan performs! Since you said that you attached the fan directly to the camera, I'm wondering how vibrations from the fan will affect the images? Best of luck!

i will insert some sort of rubber pad , btw fan and camera, to absorb any vibrations. Hope it will works. But if any developer is reading this ,i want to know if over 2 min exp ,can cause any harm to the sensor?

Since no one from the staff is interesting in answering my question , i experimented on my risk. The attached pic is part of my mosaic plan of m31. The exposure was set to 100sec ,50 frames. I used my attached fan which helped a lot with noise reduction (no vibrations whatsoever, since i used soft pads). When i added same darks and used the dither command of the phd2 ,result is almost noise free. Original size after process ,is 7 mb. Shrinking it ,loses detail , but for a non cooled camera is awesome result. This camera can do a lot with the right tools, EAA and casual astrophotography...

Very nice! Looks like your fan addition worked well. Thanks for sharing!

Is there anyone reading this forum in 2018????
Anyway , i ll keep posting my adventures with my infinity , for whoever cares.
Two panel mosaic of ic 1396 . Cooling fan on , high dither in phd2 , some tricks in pixinsight , goodbye hot pixels and a very difficult target pops up. I ll give it a try with the Ha filtrer asap ,and i ll combine images for a better result. Wish i 'd owned an O2 filter ,this is an excellent target for oxygen filters. This was taken from the centre of my city . Red zone...

my atik infinity color journey continues , balcony astrophotography .from a red /orange zone.
Ha baader filter used in both pics . Each pics took almost 18 hours of data to complete. Images are compressed to jpg and reduced to size ,so they can be uploaded here.No1 is IC1396B-elephant's trunk nebula.Composition of 4 panels

and the 2nd (ic 1848 -soul nebula).Composition of 3 panels

Nice work! You're a patient person to process 18 hours of data from your Infinity. Keep it up!

Really love your comments CraigG. Really encouraging. I can't afford at the moment to buy a new ccd or cmos ,so i take the most of infinity. And as you can see ,it has a lot to give .Besides, i really ,really ,enjoy it....

Can you post a picture of your fan mounted on the infinity? And what fan are you using. Different fans have wildly differing amounts of vibration.

I will. As soon as I set up. We have really bad weather down here

Hi all,
Apologies that no one from Atik hasn't commented on this! Direct questions to us are best sent to support@atik-cameras.com where we can normally answer within 24 hrs.
This is a great idea and the images are excellent! You won't harm the camera with exposure length, you will only be limited by the amount of noise in the image.
Best regards
Vince

I made myself for my Atik Infinity Color a Fanmount that hangs on the camera.
So i do not modify the camera, a non intrusive mod.
Between the 3D printed backplate an the fan a rubber pads and the hooks that attach to the camera have a small protection anti-vibration layer.
I attached a photo of the mod

Hi i made also a DIY Mod with a Fan on the Infinity Color. I printed a harnas and a backplate where a small 60mm fan is attached to. So i can always emove the mod without damaging the camera. I used antvibration pads uner the Fan nd put same anti vibration cloth on the clamps. (i include a photo)
