Title: Interesting CMOS sensors

CMOS have bad press in astrophotography, but some new ones are quite interesting...

Like Ruby line (http://www.e2v.com/news/e2v-launches-1-3mp-ruby-cmos-imaging-sensors/) from e2v - the EV76C660 has > 80% QE max and around 3e read noise ;) QE chart (http://nauka.rk.edu.pl/site_media/resources/nauka.rk.edu.pl/images/e2v_ruby_qe_compared.jpg). If the rolling shutter won't make problems in planetary imaging - it could be a next big thing after ICX618... but what about also cooled for DS imaging? Small objects, like planetary nebulae on high resolutions. Sun in H-alpha could maybe use optional lin-log response. I should have a camera with current Sapphire sensor for tests soon. Maybe the Ruby sensor could be Attiked if it would work nicely?

Also H-alpha solar images want a big diagonal of CMV4000 (http://www.cmosis.com/products/standard_products/cmv4000) - which should be available from Ximea (USB3), Basler (GigE) at around 1500-1800 EUR... but still they aren't ready (Basler changed from Q1 do Q2 2012).


And maybe for fun this monster (http://www.cmosis.com/products/standard_products/chr70m) - maybe it could be usable with lenses? As a asteroid / comet catcher? 2.63° x 1.87° 0.95 "/pixel for 14" Hyperstar (that can do "up to 42mm possible with some vignetting")  ::)

It was a while, and now CMOSIS offers two even bigger sensors - CMV12000 (APS-like diagonal) and CMV20000 with 35 mm diagonal.

On http://nevael.ru/ CMV20000 is around 4K EUR and CMV12000 around 2600 EUR.
