Title: Which Camera?
Post by: JonM on March 02, 2015, 04:24:20 am
Hi Group,

I'm new here as I am looking at the Atik camera line for a second CCD.  I'm looking for a one shot color camera to replace (and hopefully outperform) my previous 8300 based OSC.

I will be using the camera with an 80mm, SV80 triplet reduced to a 380mm focal length primarily.  I want something with a  narrower field of view than I had with the 8300 chip but, that will still give me the resolution on good nights to get as much detail as possible.

That being said, I still own a 8300 based camera but that is a mono version that I can use on the small refractor for wider fields.

I am looking at these Sony based Atik cameras but, which one to get. I would like to stay under $2000 for a camera and have a field of view that will be able to give decent sized images for medium to large nebulae. I have a larger scope for galaxies and planetaries and, I hope the new camera will give more size on those objects when using it with larger refractor (980mm focal length).

Also, I live in the States and want to know where I would need to send any Atik camera that needed repairs?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Jon Martin
