Title: best software for focusing the scope
Post by: alcol21 on May 30, 2016, 03:42:29 pm
Hi folks

Using an Atik 383 on an ED80 scope, what is considered the easiest software to use to achieve quick and accurate focusing? I am currently using Focus Aid in APT software. This utilises the FWHM measure to home in on best focus.

Feedback welcome.

Thanks

A

Obviously a bit of a subjective one, but for quick and easy to use, the FWHM and Brightness measurements in Artemis Capture are good for focusing, just get the FWHM to its lowest and Brightness to its highest.

I think FocusMax is pretty popular, though I can't say I've really used it myself.

Be interested to hear what other people are using.

SG Pro has its own focus routine built in which minimizes the Half Flux Radius. This works very well form me with a Robofocus based sysstem.

After a couple years using a Batinov mask with variable results, this weekend I used the built in FWHM/Brightness tool in Artemis.  It took a little fiddling, like all focusing, but I thought my final focusing got pretty good results.
