Title: Infinity with a Refractor
Post by: 2star on September 28, 2017, 08:42:23 pm
Hi, has anyone used the infinity with a 102mm refractor, if so, can it reach focus or is a T adaptor necessary
Thank you
eric

Yes, I have been using it with the Explore Scientific 102ed and it works very well.  I have done it several ways.  One way is to use sufficient extenders to get the right distance.  This makes for the scope plus camera being rather long.  I have also used the 90 degree adapter and mounted the Infinity at 90 degrees to the scope and flipping in the Infinity SW to correct the image.  This approach isn't as long and the scope plus camera is less likely to have a tripod leg be in the way.

I also unscrew the 1 1/4" nose piece and don't use it for these set ups.

I also use a filter wheel while doing this.  And a field flattener.  The ES 102ed has plenty of focus travel to accommodate this.

Hi, thanks for that, when you say 90 deg adaptor do you mean the Star Diagonal? and also when you mention Flipping the SW (software i presume) how does that help.
regards

I'm referring to the 2" 90 degree adapter one would use with eyepieces.  And when this is used, the horizontal image is reversed.  By flipping it in the Infinity SW, it is correct again left to right.
