Galaxy M51, as said a LRHaGB Picture, raw frames/subs taken 18->19 March-2018.

Hi Niels

Very nice!

Puts my to shame that I posted on March 11th. My problem is I need to add guiding, also I never tried adding Ha to an LRGB image. A few questions:

1/. How long was each frame for each filter and how many frames taken for each filter
2/. What software was used to process?

From link info. Copy & Paste info.
Raw frames were taken like this. LRGB=62,28,28,28 all 120sec exposures. Ha exposures=10x300sec.

Remote setup used,

I used ccdstack2 and Adobe Photoshop CS6.

I usually take about 16-20 frames per color so I wonder what difference more makes?

Not sure I understand your answer/question correct, but ... .

The short answer, the more frames you can get/take & when calibrated and stacked => generate more signal & less noise.

Well, due to the extremely bad weather we have had in cph Denmark lately it's always a challenge to get lrgb exposures enough to make a great picture.

Depending upon your camera specs.and how big/"fast" your scope is I always choose the lum/color frame exposure length so that the majority of stars don't saturate.

To get colors easily in stars & the target demand that fact.

Then it's just a matter of/to get the star guide feature to work. Sometimes it's a challenge to get perfect round stars, when the 16" scope focal lenght is around 2500mm.

My 30'' focal length is 2667mm long so I agree about the star quality.  I appreciate about better S/N ratio with more integrated frames, I hadn't realized more than 20 or 30 would make a bog difference but I'm going to try this.

Note:
Hopefully you know that the improvement in S/N ratio is not a linear function, meaning I don't know in your setup how much improvement in S/N ratio you will get going from 20 -> 30 frames.
