Title: Starlink train impact on imaging...
Post by: susan-parker on January 21, 2020, 03:52:49 pm
This from a couple of nights ago, a Starlink train going overhead; compared to the magnitude 2.5 star Menkar in Cetus they were brighter!!!

This is what they look like as 3 second streaks composited into one image from the 12 frames. With longer exposures these streaks would be solid lines across the whole frame.

The stacking software has jiggled a bit from the Starlink streaks, but one can see the effect.

Nikon D800 with Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 (pre-Ai version - Ai modded), 3 second exposures.

This is what the sky "should" look like - streaks were able to be removed in Deep Sky Stacker:

Sat tracker screen shot showing Starlink trails over Michigan, USA 2/15/20. The strong parallel lines running SW to NE are all Starlink sats. I hope that Susan's DSS solution can keep up!
