Title: M87 + Jet with Atik Infinity and 8" SCT
Post by: klaus on March 17, 2020, 08:45:31 am
After many months (!) of bad astronomical weather the conditions for deep sky photography were finally favourable on 14 March 2020.
Already during the recording I could see on the monitor a hint of the jet from the galaxy core of M87.
The final image consists of 46 exposures with 15 seconds exposure at f/5. Image processing with StarTools, I sharpened the image details with FocusMagic.
The Atik Infinity mono is a small but nice CCD camera ;).

Messier 87 is a giant galaxy in the neighbouring Virgo cluster. At its core is a gigantic black hole of about 6.5 billion solar masses, which astronomers were able to photograph for the first time on April 10, 2019. From this black hole a huge jet, about 5,000 light years long, made of gaseous material, is ejected.

Thanks in advance for looking at it and the valuable comments.

Hi Klaus,

That's excellent, it's a good little camera :)
