Software and Everything Else / Atik Base and Stellarmate unable to register
« Last post by Altouch on January 17, 2022, 02:41:43 am »
I’ve had my Atik Base almost a week now, and it is a complete paperweight so far.  The Stellarmate web site leaves a lot to be desired. First off, any error messages are hidden under the Stellarmate banner at the top of the page. Once you figure that out, you can look for them by finding the very small slider spot that at least partially displays the error message.

It took several days to get a support message back to figure out how to register.  Problem with recaptcha not working (accidentally stumbled on the hidden error message by scrolling) They fixed the recaptcha issue.

Now I am trying to register my Atik Base S/N.  I sign in to Stellarmate, then go to licenses.  I enter my S/N the whole number without a dash, the whole number with a dash, just the first part of the number. Whatever I do it has the hidden error message that when made readable - says “You have no devices registered.”

So far a possible good device held hostage by horrid web interface and support. A waste of $US324 for what is essentially a paperweight due to a poor web site which does not allow registration per the instructions provided with the Atik Base.

Any ideas?  I would really like to give it a fair try.

I can connect to it via WiFi, I figured out the WiFi password which is not in the Atik Base instructions. It is in the Stellarmate instructions, but not called the WiFi password. Once there,  csn’t do anything as I don’t have any devices registered.

So far, pretty unimpressed with the Stellarmate web site user interface. .

Thanks guys! :-)

Had another crack at processing M16 and NGC 5128, which brought out a bit more, particularly with M16.

Wish I had PixInsight now so I could see what I could pull out of it in that. This is all done with DSS and Photoshop CC.

Atik Horizon / Re: Horizon II presets and their GAIN equivalents
« Last post by Noah4x4 on November 23, 2021, 06:52:50 am »
The original Horizon OSC and ZWO ASI1600 have identical sensors. My understanding is that Atik Horizon and ZWO simply use a different (x10) graduation for gain, as one is in whole units and another is tenths. Hence, 10 in Atik Speak = 100 ZWO and 30 = 300 etc. I found this very useful when I migrated from Atik Infinity software to Sharpcap because although Infinity was brilliantly simple for beginners given its presets, it lacked many features (but I believe Dusk has since remedied). I followed the gain (divided by ten) and exposure settings that were being used by ASI1600 users when posting images in more active forums.

However, I still struggled with finding correct exposure and gain without such comparisons until I discovered the Brain and Smart Histogram functionality in Sharpcap. I hence did a Sharpcap Sensor Analysis on my Horizon and have never looked back. It guides you to the best settings. I don't use Dust or Artemis so can't comment about those, but tools do exist in Sharpcap that can assist.

Titan and GP Cameras / I want to buy a new telescope
« Last post by stevencostello on November 22, 2021, 04:31:27 am »
After many times using a scientific camera and looking at the stars, I have seen things that I have never known before about astronomy, stars, the universe. But recently, it seems like a long time makes the lens no longer clear. I want to buy another telescope.
Can you advise me which one I should buy?

Atik Horizon / Noise and poor sensitivity in Atik Horizon II
« Last post by bribon on November 10, 2021, 10:06:54 am »
Hello good morning from Spain.
I have a mono ATIK Horizon II and I am starting to test it these days.
I see a lot of noise in the camera and it seems as if it lacks luminosity / power to be the camera that it is ...
On the other hand, when connecting the camera in high speed mode, it only takes exposures of up to 5 seconds and the exposure restarts ... I have updated drivers and the same thing happens to me.
With the infinity software, with previous drivers the application would close. Now at least it works.
I am attaching some shots with a covered telescope of several seconds with Sharpcap and Infinity.

Thanks!

Getting some bonus weather here in Michigan so I'm trying to make the best of it. This is a narrowband composite consisting of 90 minutes of Ha and 60 minutes of OIII. I found that I can convert 1x1 binning to 2x2 in Nebulosity and
then do final processing in StarTools. The conversion really helped bring out the weak OIII component. Atik Horizon "Classic" mono on a Ioptron CEM40ec unguided with manual dithering..when I remember to do it!
