314L+ Mono Sensor Cover?
« on: February 25, 2014, 08:10:10 AM »
Hi folks,
Just curious if the glass cover enclosing the sensor is there for anything more then protecting the sensor from dust, etc...?

If not, I was wondering if there might be any adverse effects from removing it? My CCD is ALWAYS connected to a filter wheel, and therefor not exposed to the elements directly. I am of the belief that if not needed it it just another piece of glass to image through and IMHO the less pieces of glass the photons pass through to the CCD the better.

TIA
Chris

It also provides a reservoir of dry air so the CCD doesn't ice up when it's cooled.  I think if you remove the cover you will find it difficult to keep the CCD frost free.
