414ex resolution
« on: December 11, 2015, 03:26:30 PM »
I've just got a new 414ex :)
When I have just tested it by taking some bias frames and darks using Maxim DL 5.24 and the native Maxim drivers the images produced have a resolution of 1391 x 1039 but the camera it advertised as having a resolution of 1392 x 1040. Is this normal?

I've also now run a few tests now with the 414ex.

Readout noise is 3.91e-  better than the advertised 5e-  :)
Gain 0.25 e-/ADU, giving a full well capacity of 16,394 not as good as I thought  :-\

From the internet I thought that the 314 CCD had a gain of about 0.25 and that the 414 CCD was more like 0.34. So it looks like my 414 either has an incorrect gain set internally (this would account for both the low readout noise and full well capacity) or the information I found on the web was wrong. As I made the measurements using two different applications, giving consistent values,  I'm reasonably certain they are correct.

Can no one from Atik explain the dependency in the resolution they advertise and the actual resolution of heir cameras?

Hello James,

Yes that is normal, the advertising is one out. Do you want to contact us at support@atik-cameras for the other issue and we will look into it.

Best regards
Vince
