4120 ex driver question

Hello,
When installed a few months ago everything worked fine. Last night I could not either connect or if I got connected the downloads either took a long time or just got hung up. This is with both Maxim and SKY X using the native drivers as opposed to the ASCOM drivers. I reloaded the Atik software but noticed that the device showed up as a USB device in device manager (Win8) although I thought that it used to be listed as an astroimaging device in its own device manager category. Am I remembering incorrectly. Where does your device show up?

Any suggestions as to what device drivers to use native or ASCOM?

I use the ASCOM driver and MaximDL 5 pro, have not had any connection problems with mine yet, just super over saturated stars!! Grrr
