NGC 6888 Crescent Nebula
« on: June 01, 2016, 12:02:26 PM »
Hi all,

For once, I got some decent weather on a bank holiday weekend and made use of it taking images of Messier 57, the Ring Nebula and NGC 6888, the Crescent Nebula. The Ring Nebula pics were fine, if a little small (tiny subject and short focal length scope) but the Crescent Nebula came out quite nicely. Since the nights are so short, it's hard to get enough frames to get a decent Signal to Noise ratio, especially if you're shooting five minute exposures on a mono camera through filters. One Shot Colour cameras might be quite handy in summer!

Telescope: William Optics FLT-98 with AFR-IV reducer/flattener
Camera: Atik One 6.0 with OAG kit
Exposures: 6x5min per channel through RGB filters

This was my first try using a light pollution filter (IDAS P2) in an attempt to reduce the strong sky gradients that I get from my location in Manchester, UK.
