dark frame acquisition with 383L+

Being new to image acquisition I needed to ask a basic question:
Can dark frames be collected with the atik 383L+ off the scope after an imaging session. I can imagine shooting all the light frames, then pack up while the camera is taking dark frames after pulling it off the scope. If this is an acceptable technique, should I close the shutter and put on the cap or leave the cap off?

Yes you Can take darks with the camera off. Just
Make sure that the temps and time match your
lights. I would place the cap on to ensure that no
stray light hits the sensor.
