Any suggestions for power supply for 420??
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:21:24 PM »
I'm waiting on delivery of a 420M....
I've read various posts about some noise at some voltages, or with cheap switchmode supplies etc, and want to maximise my hobby time, and not be stuffing around with cheap PSUs....
The PSU sold by Atik looks like your run of the mill cheapo switch mode? Is it OK?
All of the decent regulated bench supplies here are 13.8V, or variable....
I'll probably settle on a good quality regulated variable bench supply, then I can adjust voltage if there are noise issues....
Any other suggestions? (will be used in an obs)
I'm not keen on batteries..... :)

Hi Astrodog,

Low voltage noise for the 383L+mono is a recognized (and dare I say "acknowleged") problem.  The 13.8v type RPS is the recommended fix.
Try going directly to Atik tech support to see if the 420M is also a candidate for higher voltage.  They monitor this forum and will sometimes chime in.  But I have found them most responsive to a direct e-mail.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Mark

Thanks Mark... will try that...
I'm going to grab a nice 0-30V 3A regulated supply anyway, can't hurt, and can dial up whatever voltage I need.... I'm a gadget guy too of course :)
Gets a fair review here-
