314L+ and 320E do not work correctly with ASCOM driver
« on: February 25, 2021, 06:22:11 PM »
Sorry for using an ancient camera but I purchased both of these years ago, then life got in the way and now I'm back and have time to work with them again.  I've encountered and issue right off the bat where neither of these cameras appear to work correctly with the ASCOM driver for Atik cameras.  This can be seen in the following DARK frames I took.

All of the frames below were taken with a 5 sec exposure, DARK with the camera covered, all the same temp, no delay between frames

The top is a DARK frame using the Atik Artimis capture program. This looks correct.
The second is a DARK frame using SkyX and the ASCOM driver.  This is Frame 1 of a sequence of 100 frames
The bottom is a DARK frame using SkyX and the ASCOM driver.  This is Frame 100 of a sequence of 100 frames

Hmmm well my pictures are not showing up.  The description below describes what is happening.  The top frame from
Artimis looks like a perfectly normal DARK frame.  The next two, Frame 1 has a bloom at the top and by frame 100 the
bloom has covered the entire array.
As you can see the ASCOM pictures start with a severe bloom at the top and after a series of 100 frames the entire array is saturated.  What is going on?  I saw on a different post that their may have been firmware updates to these cameras but there does not appear to be anything available in the download sections. It is very possible they may have been available at one time but now are not and my cameras are old enough that they are still running on very old firmware.

Just got a very nice reply from Atik Support.  As those in IT like to say, PBTKAC.  (Google it ;-)). I was enabling "Preview" on the ASCOM setup panel for the driver.  This will turn something, I'm assuming an amplifier, that is causing the glow on my images.  There is no firmware upgrade required.  Disable Preview mode and the cameras should work fine.  Many thanks to the Atik support staff!
