Atik 450C QE
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:28:32 PM »
Does anyone here know the QE of the chip in the 450C? I can't find any info on this...even Steve at Atik suggested I lookup the chip info at Sony but Sony's specs do not cover QE at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Point Grey has some QE curvers, but in relative values. Combining data from two PDFs absolute QE would in theory look like so (to high? almost 90%  :o):
C11 - TSAPO65 - Atik 314L+ - DMK21AU618 - HEQ5...

Thanks Riklaunim. The AL chip is the mono chip though, I was wondering about the AQ - or color chip on the ICX655. Despite my best efforts I have been unable to get the QE data on this chip. Strange that Atik doesn't even have this information. I am a bit worried, this chip in a popular microscope camera has 656nm QE at 12% - but then again, it's a different type of camera. I do own the 450C and have had it for almost 2 months but have not had an opportunity to use it yet. I plan to use it for the first time during the new moon (end of January) if I get time. I wonder if there any way for someone like me to measure this or quantify it in some way with astro images other than comparing it to other cameras on the same target for the same amount of time?

QE 12% is impossible ;) The color will have the bands withing the mono curve so also high. Sony doesn't publish absolute QE - and that's the main problem. Only some machine vision companies measure that. The QE "must" be high ;)

Thanks for the reply RikLaunim, I appreciate it. I know 656mn wouldn't be as low as 12% for the Atik Camera, even with the bayer matrix. It is a bit frustrating not knowing though. I hope to be able to use the camera in a week or so (if the weather holds) and I will be happy to post the finished image here. Everyone is really curious what the camera can do (including me). Thanks again.

By those numbers, looks like the QE on the 450C in the HA range is about 33..not so good :-\
Thanks for finding the info. I greatly appreciate it.
