Atik 383L+ First Light
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:27:33 am »
I finally got a chance to use my new camera last night after it sitting in its case for two weeks. It was only a quick one, 4x15m, guided @ -20C. Scope used was a Tak FSQ 106N. No filters used but hopefully next time.

Lex, thanks for the kind words. This was taken with a Tak FSQ 106N, on a G11 mount guided with a Meade DSI in the Atik OAG. It took me almost an hour to figure out the focus point for the OAG using the various adapters that were supplied. I used Maxm DL for image acquisition and guiding, using 3 second exposures for the guiding.
It was shot from my driveway in suburban central New Jersey.
I too like some of these grey scale images - this one was due to the fact that I don't have the filters yet, but will be ordering them soon. But i plan on doing more b/w and NB images in the future along with LRGB.

Indeed BW have their own caracter, NB is quiet a challenge to place the different Filterings with the right amount on the right spot..
If you newer worked with LRGB filters in I sincerely would propose you to firstly begin with this, IMO it is the first step to do getting ready for NB, this IMHO  :o
With your BW i think that you will be a master of colorcombination!

Hi MIke!

It looks very good for a first light and I'm nosey to see more
images in the future with your camera and the fsq.
Eventually, I will add to my atik314l a camera with a bigger chip for widefields
with the fsq106ed.

Best regards.

Thanks Lex and Herbert. I have had some experience a while back with LRGB using an ST-402ME.And for me while it was a good camera, the chip was real small
and when wanting something larger, I went to the OSC Orion Starshoot Pro. That was a fun camera, but then I wanted to get back into b/w, NB and color but
without giving up the larger FOV that i got used to. The 383L+ (among others with the 8300 chip) offers that. Of the cameras that I looked at
I found the Atik to be the best in price/performance.
Once I use it a bit further, I plan on writing up a review for a couple of the imaging websites I belong to.
