383L and EFW2 max amp draw

The Atik A/C power supply for the 383L camera has an output rating of 12v 2.5amps.  Does anyone know what the max amperage draw of the camera would be with the TEC running at close to 100%?  Is it close to 2.5amps or is it closer to 1amp?

What I am thinking of doing is powering both my 383L and EFW2 filter wheel using the same power supply with a cable splitter on the end, like this one:

This means one cable going to both components.  However I don't want to draw too much amps and damage anything, either the power supply or camera/filter wheel.  I assume that the EFW2 amp draw is very low.

Is this adviseable or dangerous?  :)

Hi Joel,

I think that if a powersupply offers fex 5 amps and the powered item only draws 2.5 there will be no harm on the power supply or on the ccd or efw side...

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, that is my understanding too.  My question concerns the Atik AC power supply, which has a stated output of 2.5 amps.  I'm wondering if the 383L draws close to 2.5 amps and then I add the filter wheel to that, will I go over 2.5 amps and fry the power supply.

You can measure the current between power supply and camera while TEC is running. Be careful how you measure the current. Do NOT connect the multi-meter across (+ and - terminals) the power supply the same way you measure the voltage because if it will short the power supply if you attempt measure the current. If you are unsure, ask a friend who is more familiar with measuring the current.
