Atik 414 EX mono does not focus
« on: September 25, 2021, 11:16:42 PM »
Hi
This is my first question on this forum. I bought a Atik 414 which I try to use with my 14 inch Celestron with a 6.3 focal reducer but cannot get it to focus well. I have done almost every thing but no joy. I know the back focus of the focal reducer is 105 mm plus the filter drawer the off axis guider and measured the distance and put the camera where it should be but no pin point stars.

In fact I can put the camera any place behind the focal reducer. it does not matter because I just use the focus knob of the scope to get to the same half focus position. Is there any one who can give me advise what to do to get the camera to focus.
I also have a 9.25 celestron with SBIG 8300 and have no problem with that combination.

Thanks.
Louw

Hello
With that configuration C14 + Fr (X 0.63) you have a small range for which Atik 414 sensor is not large but it is a great sensor!
Try centering a bright star with finder and see if it is at the center of the frame with Sbig 8300 ... take off Sbig and mount Atik (so you are sure that the star is centered) then you have to try to reach focus with Atik
