ATIK 383L
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:57:56 AM »
I currently own an ATIK 3l4e that serves me well. I use an Orion Nautilus 1.25 motorized filter wheel with it. If I decide to get an ATIK 383L, will I still be able to use the Nautilus filter wheel with it?  Will there be any vignetting? Thanks in advance.

I've got that wheel with a 383L+ and 1.25" filters

I am connecting to the camera with a male to male T adaptor, one with short threads on both sides, so there's only about 3mm between the camera and the filter wheel.

I can't claim to have absolutely no vignetting (at F/6.25) but the amount I see is tiny and only affects the far corners of the CCD.  A flat will cure it.  It's good enough for me.

Thank you Chris for the reply. That's exactly what I needed to know. I was thinking of going up from the 3l4e to the 3l4L but it's not that much of a difference. The 383L would make quite a difference but I didn't want to purchase another filter wheel.

Hi,

just as Chris said, the 1.25" filters do not cause vignetting as long as you do not image @f<9 or so.
I do also image with my f5 and f6 scopes without to much vignetting but with my C11 things are getting worse..
