M54 Adaptors?
« on: April 27, 2012, 04:29:34 PM »
Hi All,

I would like to use 2" filters with my 383 and EFW 2. Does anyone know of any suppliers that manufacture M 54 to 2" adaptors that don't reduce the 2" tube internally that I can plug straight into the scope? I want to use most of the surface area of the filter to avoid vignetting. The supplied M54 adapter has the bore reduced inside the adapter, presumably to use 1.25" filters. Otherwise, seems pointless having a 2" filter holder as an option?

Many thanks in advance,

Pete

Hi,

www.Teleskop-Express.de is offering stuff like that. To be honest I do use the same setup as you with a C11, 10" f5 Newt, 90/600 Triplet APO and an 8" Mak; this with 1,25" filter and 2" nosepieces. On the C11 I have a slight vignetting; it can be reduced by adapting the Binning Factor and/or by applying Flats or Processing it with stuff like Dynamic Background Extraction --> IMHO the future killer of the boring flats  >:(

CGEM, C11, TS Carbon Apo Triplet 90/600, TS Carbon UNC 254/1250, Atik 383l+, EFW2,
TSOAG, Lodestar....

QHY Corp also makes a similar adapter
ATIK also makes a M54 to T thread adapter

I use a T thread to 2" nosepiece with all of the above adapters.

Thanks for your replies Lex, bwa.

The problem with a T thread adapter is you don't get the benefit of using 2" filters

Had a look at TS, they sell an M54 to M48 adapter and M48 threaded 2" extension tubes, which, I think, is the way to go.

I'm thinking of buying a Tak FSQ 85ED which has a built-in flattener, so I could plug the extension tube straight into the scope.

M48 extension tubes are a big advantage if you want to use an OAG, that few mm makes a huge difference. You will need a few more adapters to use on the FSQ, not sure what the thread is on the back of the camera adapter but its not 2" so you will need a step down ring for it.
