Software and driver versions

Is it possible to give the software the version number in the name?
When I check for software updates, I never see witch version is the latest.
I have to download and install the software to look for the version numbers.

Also a release note with the latest version would be great.
That would make it all a bit easier to be sure that I use the latest release.
