383L+ OSC and h-alpha
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:11:29 PM »
Hello I tried combining h-alpha and color data in this image
http://www.flickr.com/photos/andyinsea/8084365525/in/photostream
I noticed some missing data in the Ha data. I think it's normal due to he Bayer matrix. However I would like to know how other people have corrected this in post processing.
I tried stacking the Ha data with DSS using super pixel mode but I got a lot of hot pixels.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Andy

Using PixInsight, split the image into R,G, and B images and follow Harry's "Add Ha to a Galaxy" tutorial.

http://www.harrysastroshed.com/Hagalaxy.html

You need to calibrate Ha to remove hot pixels first, then stack. I hope you dithered the images during capture because dithering does a great job of removing hot pixels and noise during stacking.

Thanks Peter I will look it up!
I really like Pixinsight!
I did not dither.....I guess I need to start doing that as I know all the theory behind it and I know it works very well.
With my setup my subs are never off by more than one pixel at the most so I am sure that dithering will provide a much cleaner final stacked image.

I forgot that someone wrote a cool PixInsight script based on Harry's "Add Ha to Galaxy" tutorial. The script is much easier and faster. You can find more information from:

http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=3446.60

Download HaRGBCombinationV1.4.zip and add this script to PixInsight. You need to watch Harry's video to understand the script.
