Gandalf or Merlin?...The Wizard Nebula
« on: October 13, 2020, 10:29:46 PM »
Haven't checked for a while and glad to see that the website is back up again. Here's a shot of the Wiz, NGC 7380 in the HOO pallette. Horizon mono camera, Baader Ha and OIII filters with unguided subs on a iOptron CEM40EC mount. What a cool DSO!

Ha 35x60 sec
OIII 45x60 sec
Processed in Nebulosity

Hi Craig,

I can't see the image, or will it suddenly appear in a puff of smoke!

The forum was off for a while, it got blocked after we made some changes to the sign up process in an attempt to cut down on the amount of spam received. Back to normal now hopefully!

Best regards
Vince

Thanks Crooro! Vince, you need a special 2" WizEnhance filter in order to see him! It's fully par focal with the complete line of Palantir Optical filters made by Canuseemenow Industries of Rivendell, ME.

While waiting for clearer skies to return, thought I'd go back and process the Wiz in StarTools. I also aligned the Ha and OIII stacks in Deep Sky Stacker using a common reference frame rather than in Nebulosity that I had been doing up until recently. The new combination seemed to result in a better image with tighter stars and a more natural OIII component.
