Blooming 383L+ Mono
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:28:15 am »
I started imaging M42 the other night. I did 10 Ha images at -20C. Then I did 10 blue images binned 2x2 and got blooming in all 10. Changed to the green filter and the same story. Three green images with blooming. I'm attaching the first blue image cropped and converted to jpeg. Close examination will show the smaller stars are round and the brighter ones bloom to the left. How is a non-blooming camera blooming?

Already posted, check on forum history.

It's a "know feature" (aka a problem ?) of the KAF-8300 when used in bin 2x2.

Found it:

What an odd characteristic. Oh well...I guess I'll have to do my color subs 1x1 rather than 2x2.

It's not a problem with RGB : you can blur the chrominance.

It's a problem if you want to use it with a long focal scope needed the L being done in 2x2.

It's certainly a problem with the elongated bleeding stars. Short of having to do something with them in Photoshop you're stuck. The elongation shows when the RGB's are combined with the L. The real alternative it to just take the RGB's 1x1 since it just takes a little longer to get the color images

I don't know how you work but it's not visible, really.

You can check my pictures : there's no trace of the blooming in the chrominance.
